The history of the Dahlia flower is amazing. These colorful and beautiful blooms are related to sunflowers and have a long history. The history of the Dahlia flower is believed to have started in Mexico and central America, where it was cultivated by the Aztecs.

The flower spread to Europe after Spanish botanist Mariano Lagasca sent some seeds to Spain, where they were named after honored Swedish Botanist Anders Dahl. Dahlias are part of the sun flower family. They include annuals biennials and perennials. Most Dahlias are perennials, growing from tubers. They are vary in size, shape and color.

The first Dahlias were grown as an ornamental, later on people began eating them as well! Today they are very popular around the world because of their striking appearance and colors.
