LILIES OF NEW ZEALAND…

LILIES of New Zealand

Lilies are a flowering plant that grows from bulbs. When the flowers bloom, they are large, colorful and often fragrant. True Lilies belong to the Genus Lilium. True Lilies all have six petals and six stamens with anthers.

Lilies grow new shoots in September (in New Zealand). Flowering season occurs during Christmas, and flowers last until mid January. Most species of Lily are native to the Northern Hemisphere. Colors include white, orange, pink, yellow, red and maroon etc..

Most grow best in well drained soil, and plants are watered during the growing season. Lilies are often believed to symbolize femininity and fertility, but the most common meaning is purity and fertility.
