We should intervene to prevent WW III and for our own safety
Last night, while we were fast asleep, the war that was hovering around, had broken out. Although Netanyahu, Trump, and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have their own speculations in concluding the War, no one knows when or how it would happen. Trump’s involvement in the War in support of Israel has left Iran sidelined. Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, all who were against Israel with Iran’s backing, have now restrained themselves. But Iran will not raise a white flag immediately to sit for peace talks as Trump insists. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu meanwhile promises to completely change the face of Middle East. One implied promise is, he will end the rule of the Mullahs in Israel. The other is, Israel will be deciding the fate of Middle East.

One thing is clear, as I have said before. With this UN Security Council, no solution to this War will be possible. Trump joining the war says the UN Security Council is defunct. It is also quite doubtful of Russia supporting Iran, still unable to conclude the Ukraine war. In such context, what does this JVP/NPP government have to say about the safety of around 300,000 migrant Sri Lankan workers in the Middle East? It may not be necessary to bring all 300,000 immediately. Yet, Sri Lanka should have a plan at hand, if the situation demands Sri Lankan workers to be recalled from countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait. However, immediate recall of nearly 100,000 workers from countries like Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, is essential for the safety of their lives, regardless of the dollar income we would lose.
About Sri Lankan migrant employees in Israel, I made a written request to the Minister of Foreign Affairs 10 days ago, on June 13, to stop recruiting more workers to Israel and to immediately bring back more than 10,000 of our workers in Israel. Though the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to acknowledge my written request, Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath should now inform the country about his government’s decision on Sri Lankan labour in Israel. I firmly say once again, the government should take steps this moment to immediately ensure safety and bring back the more than 10,000 Sri Lankan workers from Israel.
For Immediate Control of Armed Conflicts.
Meanwhile, the government should also immediately stop issuing tourist visas to more Israelis. Although the warring nations target nuclear power plants, military bases, state ministries, presidential palaces, in Middle East armed attacks by terrorists do not always remain within those special targets. Past experiences tell us, Iranian-backed terrorist groups lke Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis (Ansar Allah), Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq, and the Zainubiyoun Brigade in Pakistan, may instead target Israeli and American centers in countries diplomatically close to Israel and America.
Therefore, right now at the start of this War, it would be safe to keep the assumption whether the War could get dragged on for few weeks more and redefine our foreign policy independent of American-Israeli interests. We must most also immediately intervene in (1) demanding a public statement by the US immediately on withdrawing from the War (2) demand immediately from Israel and Iran to declare a cease fire and (3) lobby for an emergency UN General Assembly to establish a Peace Council consisting of non-arms dealer sovereign States from Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East in replacing the UN Security Council and establish social stability for immediate control of armed conflicts in the Middle East.
